Routine inspections of monuments and headstones

As part of our commitment to providing a safe and respectful environment for all visitors, we carry out regular inspections of headstones and monuments across the cemeteries we manage.

These inspections are a legislative requirement under the Cemeteries & Crematoria NSW (CCNSW) Interment Industry Scheme, which sets safety and maintenance standards for cemetery operators in NSW.

If a monument is found to be unstable due to weathering or damage, we may temporarily section off the area or carefully lay the headstone down to prevent any risk of harm. Where possible, we’ll contact the interment right holder to advise them of the action taken.

Inspections have commenced at Wollongong Cemetery and will continue across all sites under our care.
